It was a bad start for the box office on Friday - according to The Hollywood Reporter, the three new films released this weekend, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Parker, and Movie 43, each disappointed despite high expectations and promising casts.

Hansel & Gretel, starring Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner, still managed to take the number one spot and acquire a 'B' Cinemascore, though it's only earned a disappointing $5.9 million so far. Early predictions have the film earning about $17 million for the whole weekend, which is $8 million less than originally anticipated.

Both Parker and Movie 43 didn't fare as well. A star-studded cast wasn't enough to save Movie 43 from earning a 'D' Cinemascore and a dismal number six spot in the box office. The film only pulled in $1.8 million Friday, and is projected to earn about $5 million for the whole weekend. As for Parker, the Jason Statham- Jennifer Lopez- starring film pulled in an equally disappointing 2.1 million on Friday to take the number five spot.

Last week's box office winner, Mama, took the number two spot behind Hansel & Gretel, followed by Oscar-contenders Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty at number three and number four, respectively.
