George Zimmerman's lawyers are trying to secure more time to prepare for his second degree murder trial, claiming that prosecutors have not turned over evidence in a timely matter.
Mark O'Mara, his lead attorney, is also actively seeking donations for Zimmerman's defense, estimating that it could cost as much $1 million. On Zimmerman's defense fund website, O'Mara said that the state of Florida has "virtually unlimited resources to prosecute [Zimmerman]."
According to spokesman Shawn Vincent, Zimmerman's lawyers are trying to have the trial postponed from June until November. A hearing has been scheduled for April, where Zimmerman will argue that he killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last February in self-defense. A judge has stated that the trial will begin at least 45 days after the hearing.
