Let the Centers for Disease Control tell it, "most of the country" is currently experiencing "high levels of influenza-like-illness" at nearly "peak levels." The highest levels of activity are being reported in "twenty-nine states and New York City."
“While we can’t say for certain how severe this season will be, we can say that a lot of people are getting sick with influenza and we are getting reports of severe illness and hospitalizations,” said Dr. Joe Bresee, Chief of the Epidemiology and Prevention Branch in CDC’s Influenza Division.
Bresee advised everyone who hasn't been vaccinated to "do so now." National hospitalization rates for the flu are currently 8.1 per 100,000 people, which Bresee says is "high for this time of year." Do the smart thing and get those flu shots ASAP.
