D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray has announced that the Adams Morgan and U Street NW areas have been recognized together as one of the top 12 ArtPlaces in America by ArtPlace. ArtPlace is a collection of leading national and regional banks, foundations and federal agencies devoted to advancing “creative placemaking," which they describe as "putting art at the heart of a portfolio of strategies designed to revitalize communities."

The neighborhoods were selected because they combined the "arts, artists and venues for creativity and expression with independent businesses, restaurants, and a walkable lifestyle to create vibrant neighborhoods."
