Confirmation: PS2 Production is Over Worldwide, Not Just in Japan

Sony will no longer produce the PlayStation 2 anywhere.

None

Last week we brought you the sad news that Sony had terminated production of the PlayStation 2, arguably the best video game console ever made, in its home country of Japan. There remained a glimmer of hope, though, that production might continue in other countries, since Japan was the only country named.

Now that hope has been thrown to the ground and trampled into the dust. The Guardian has confirmed that no more new PS2s will be produced anywhere in the world. Production on the console, which sold over 150 million units and somehow managed to stay relevant for over a decade, has stopped everywhere.

And you thought 2013 was going to be a good year. Bah!
