Ever since its watershed "1984" commercial that aired during Super Bowl VXIII, Apple has been synonymous with genius advertising. Sure, the company's had its occasional misses, but none as off target as the "Genius" ad campaign it ran this past summer. The commercials featured an Apple genius, who resembled a hyper version of the stoner kid from the old Dell commercials, helping customers with the simplest of issues. People complained that the commercials painted Apple users as uncreative idiots-the exact opposite of the image of the company has worked to curate over the years. Due to the backlash, Apple pulled the campaign after three commercials aired. This is a rare case when Apple should not have thought different.
