Just in time for the Holidays, we were delivered a huge lump of coal today as Walking Dead showrunner, Glen Mazzara, announced on his Twitter that season three will be his last on the hit AMC series. Mazzara has been the executive producer on the show for the last two seasons, as well as a writer on the first two. He took over the show after Frank Darabont’s departure, and was influential in turning The Walking Dead into one of the best dramas on TV. Here is the tweet that Mazzara sent out:
I've had an amazing experience as showrunner for S3 @walkingdead_amc but it's time to move on. Thank you to all the fans for their support.
We don’t know the reason behind his sudden exit as of yet. However, with season three being pretty much all written and mapped out, his departure won’t likely be felt until next season. We’re not saying the quality of the show will drop, but we have seen series suffer from this type of thing before.
Hopefully the people behind the show will still look at Robert Kirkman’s comic series as inspiration and continue to bring us quality television in Mazzara’s absence.
