The Sherlock Holmes franchise is a bit of an oddity at Warner Brothers, because despite earning over $1 billion worldwide combined so far, it feels like the series still flies under the radar when people discuss moneymaking movie properties. But apparently the studio realizes what it has in Holmes, and that’s why we weren’t shocked when producer Dan Lin told Collider that the third installment in the series is in development.

“It’s still in development. Drew Pearce is working on the script and Downey, as you know, is still finishing Iron Man 3 so we’re waiting for Downey to finish that movie and to get a script from Drew,” Lin said.

“It is a high priority for the studio and all for the filmmakers involved… We want to make the right movie,” he continued. “We got a great response to the second movie and frankly the Moriarty character sets such a high bar that we want to make sure we’re telling the right story for the third movie.”

Lin also said that the new Holmes movie will feature some returning characters and new locations, but he didn’t elaborate on any details. Let us know in the comment section below if you actually want to see more of Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes, or if you think the series has run its course.
