Bad news if you were looking forward to Robert Zemeckis's upcoming Yellow Submarine remake: Moviehole is reporting that it is officially not happening. Apparently, the project started dying a slow death ages ago - the film was supposed to begin production in December of 2011, but was halted by Disney, because they'd just lost a substantial amount of money producing Mars Needs Moms. In fear of another flop, Disney told Zemeckis that they'd no longer finance Yellow Submarine, and the project was more or less dead for the time being.
Fast-forward to now, and Zemeckis has a potentially Oscar-winning movie on his hands in the form of Flight. Though there was some speculation that this would make Disney change their minds about Yellow Submarine, apparently it's now Zemeckis himself that doesn't want to do the project. In a new interview with Total Film magazine, the director commented:

Sorry guys - but let's be real, it's not like we really needed a remake anyway.
