A rat was randomly spotted in the display window of Zabar's E.A.T. gourmet food shop on Madison Avenue near East 81st St. early yesterday morning. “I’m walking past and I see a rat hanging in the breadbasket inside the store,” says a customer who made the startling discovery. He informed the managers, who promised to call an exterminator.
A rat seems out of place at a place that sells chocolate covered caviar at $35 for two ounces, until you remember that it's New York City and you chose this life.
