This is what happens when drama begets drama. 26-year-old Long Island native Jared Gurman has been accused of shooting his girlfriend in the back during an argument over the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead this past Sunday. According to police reports, the couple began arguing about the possibility of a real-life zombie outbreak actually occurring.
"He feels strongly about the possibility that some military mishap could occur. She thinks it’s ridiculous,” said Nassau County Detective Lt. Raymond Cole. “She was not taking him seriously or taking the show as seriously as he does.”
The argument didn't end with first half of The Walking Dead's third season. This war of words continued via texts messages, and the woman returned to the apartment out of concern over Gurman's mental state. When she arrived, he was waiting outside with a .22 caliber rifle. As she walked up the stairs to the apartment, Gurman fired once round, striking her in the back.
He took her to the Long Island Jewish Medical Center where she is in stable condition, despite still having the bullet inside of her. Gurman was arrested and charged with attempted murder, and his attorney, Edward L. Lieberman, is claiming that the rifle discharged "accidentally."
Now that's fiction.
