Disney is gearing up to unveil "Disney Infinity," the next project from Disney Interactive, at an event on Jan. 15, according to reports on Tuesday.

An invitation sent out to certain members of the press indicates that the Disney Infinity event will be hosted by John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios and a principal creative advisor at Walt Disney Imagineering, and John Pleasants, co-president of Disney Interactive.

Rumor has it Disney Infinity will turn out to be Disney's take on Skylanders, the ridiculously successful Activision franchise that marries real-life toys with in-game avatars. Infinity, reportedly codenamed "Toy Box," has also been described as a "console game with extensive mobile and online applications in which various Pixar and Disney characters will interact with one another for the first time."
