A heated discussion about the possibility of a zombie apocalypse turned nearly deadly when a Long Island man shot his girlfriend in the back with a rifle because she didn't believe that zombies could exist.

According to AmNY, the incident happened when the couple got into an argument after an episode of AMC's The Walking Dead. The man, 26-year-old Jared Gurman, believed that some sort of "military mishap" could result in a virus being released into the world, and his girlfriend, 27-year-old Jessica Gelderman, felt that was crazy. Unfortunately, it was actually Gurman himself that was crazy, and the discussion escalated until Gelderman left his apartment, though the two continued their argument over text message. When Gelderman returned to Gurman's apartment to calm him down, he immediately shot her in the back with a .22 caliber assault rifle.

Gurman reportedly then took Gelderman to the hospital, where he was promptly arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder. As of last night, Gelderman's condition is stable, though the bullet hasn't yet been removed and she's suffering from a shattered rib, a pierced lung, a pierced diaphragm.
