It's no secret that Iranian government would like to police what they perceive as "inappropriate" content. In an effort to control the Internet, Iran has launched "Mehr," the Farsi word for affection, which hopes to attract Persian-speaking users and promote Iranian culture. Through their YouTube-like video sharing site, a user can "upload their short films on the Web site and access [IRIB] produced material," according to Lotfollah Siahkali, deputy chief of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
Eventually, the Iranian government would reportedly like to have a domestic system in place by March 2013. This video sharing site seems like a step in that direction.
