According to Deadline, CBS and the cast of How I Met Your Mother have come to an agreement for a ninth season of the hit comedy. But the site is reporting that the deal almost didn’t happen after series star, Jason Segel, backed out of the negotiations early on. Apparently the show was "literally dead,” if not for a last-second turnaround by Segel.
A decision on the show needed to be made soon because creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays wanted enough time to appropriately wrap up the series’ loose ends if season eight was going to be the finale. This means it might be another year before we find out who the mother actually is.
This better pay off.
