The standalone YouTube app that Google created after Apple nixed the pre-installed version in iOS 6 has received a major update that includes support for the iPhone 5 and iPad.

In addition to making the app native for the iPad, Google also made it compatible with the iPhone 5's larger 4-inch display. The new app also now works better with AirPlay, allowing users to view videos on larger screens via AppleTV or any other AirPlay compatible player.

Google announced the new features on the YouTube blog:

Just in time for the holidays, now you can download or update the YouTube app with a look designed for the iPad and iPhone 5, enhanced AirPlay support, videos that start faster and play more smoothly, and improved accessibility with VoiceOver. Enjoy Tastemade on iPad in full screen glory, or hours of flipping through Ryan Higa videos on your iPhone 5 or iPod touch.

Download the latest YouTube app for iOS device from the Apple App Store.
