Find Out The Identity Of Marvel's New Spider-Man That Will Debut In Today's "Amazing Spider-Man #700"

It's a little bit like Freaky Friday.

None

With today being the day after Christmas, don’t expect many new comics to hit the shelves this Wednesday due to the holiday chaos. But one title that did manage to be released today is also one of the most anticipated issues of the year: Amazing Spider-Man #700.

This landmark issue will also serve as the finale for the venerable series as it will be replaced in January with the debut of The Superior Spider-Man, which is touting a brand new character taking over the mantle of the Web Slinger. And according to USA Today, this new Spider-Man will be none other than…Peter Parker? Let us explain.

In Amazing Spider-Man #698, Doctor Octopus managed to switch minds with Peter, thus giving him the power of Spider-Man and leaving Parker in the frail, broken body of his greatest nemesis. And in today’s Amazing Spider-Man #700, Doc Ock learns about the responsibility that goes with this power, and instead of using Spider-Man’s body for destruction, he decides to use it for the good of humanity.

Writer Dan Slott told the website, “This is Moriarty in the head of Sherlock. This is Prince John inside of Robin Hood. This is the greatest villain inside the body of the greatest hero and trying to do good.”

Slott and editor Stephen Wacker also promised that Ock’s version of Spider-Man will be a bit more ruthless than the traditional version. "We want to do Spider-Man by way of Batman — a little creepier and darker,” Wacker said.

If this new version of the Web Head interests you, then go out and buy Amazing Spider-Man #700 today. Then be sure to pick up Ock’s new solo series in Superior Spider-Man #1, which will be released on January 9.
