KTLA is reporting that crime has dropped in L.A. for the 10 consecutive year. Serious crimes such as robbery, assault and auto theft decreased, which account for a two percent drop. However, petty thefts and homicides are up, as 297 murders have been reported.

Authorities believe the spike in petty theft can be attributed to economic woes.
