The short, lovely run of Treme is about to come to an end, after a truncated return next year. The few of us (and according to ratings, it is very few) who have watched the show know that the two main characters are really the music and food of New Orleans.
Sure, it makes for a strange viewing experience, considering how much time is taken out of the plot movement to meditate on certain culinary ingredients or the nature of musicianship, but that is a large part of what makes the show unique. For that Treme fan on your list who doesn't know what they will do without gumbo and trombones in their life, pick up this cookbook. The food should tide them over until HBO green lights David Simon's next sweeping social drama.
