Widespread critical hatred and barely $10 million at the box office—let's hope that's all Gerard Butler needed to wake up and smell the romantic comedy feces. Yet again, the one-time 300 star drained away the good will earned by that Roman warrior epic while starring in a sappy, hokey project that not even Matthew McConaughey would've fucked with back in his The Wedding Planner days.
Butler plays a former soccer star trying to reconnect with his son and son's mother (Jessica Biel), and it's every bit as unbearably saccharine as that description makes it sound. Well, except for the film's proposed notion that middle-aged suburban soccer moms are all horny and ready to sleep with their kids' hunky coach—that's just hilariously misogynistic.
