Why Kids Should Be Afraid of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Rest of Their Creepy Friends

Tomte

If you’ve ever wondered why some people have those unsightly garden gnome figurines planted outside of their home, this is where the practice originated. The folklore of the tomte speaks of a elf-like creature that sneaks into the homes of farmers at night to watch over the house and probably help himself to some leftover spaghetti in the fridge because no one’s going to notice.

It’s a short tale, but enough to make this guy seriously creepy. Sneaking into someone’s house while they sleep to “protect” them sounds more like an excuse an obsessed stalker with paranoid tendencies would make, not a legitimate explanation. Being a mythical creature does not make you above the law, Peeping Tomte!
