Verizon Wireless has waived voice and text charges for customers living in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey. The announcement was made on its website and it stated "no action is required by our customers to be eligible."
The following areas in New York will have charges waived from October 29 to November 16:
Bronx County, Kings County, Nassau County, New York County, Putnam County, Queens County, Richmond County, Rockland County, Suffolk County, and Westchester County.
And in New Jersey these counties will be issued a fee waiver:
Atlantic City, Bergen County, Burlington County, Camden County, Cape May County, Cumberland County, Essex County, Gloucester County, Hudson County, Hunterdon County, Mercer County, Middlesex County, Monmouth County, Morris County, Ocean County, Passaic County, Salem County, Somerset County, Sussex County, Union County, and Warren County.
Late fees will also be waived for these customers, but Verizon Wireless is not waiving its monthly access charges.
Verizon Wireless said it extended the waiver dates after Sandy because it was "hoping that the lives of our customers impacted by [the] storm will have returned to pre-Sandy normalcy."
