Twitter today sent an email out to thousands of users saying that it reset their passwords due to their account being compromised. The only problem? A good number of the accounts that were reset weren't hacked. According to the BBC, the "mass email coincided with incidents involving several high-profile accounts."
In a statement afterwards, Twitter apologized for "any inconvenience or confusion" that the emails may have caused:
"When we believe an account may have been compromised, we reset the password and send an email letting the account owner know this has happened along with information about creating a new password. This is a routine part of our processes to protect our users.
So, if you got an email saying that your password was reset, don't worry, you're not alone.
