On Thursday, Newsweek and The Daily Beast editor in chief Tina Brown hosted the first annual Hero Summit at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, DC. The theatrical-journalism event honored active and retired military members, as well as writers and activists who have covered both moral and physical courage.

Guests for the two day event included BonoAdm. William McRaven, DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, actress Jennifer Beals and Charlie Rose. In addition to listening to the tales of courage, everyone in attendance got a better understanding of the true meaning of heroism.
