College: Baker College

Date: 2010

The Muskegon, MI police spent more than a year investigating a group of students that allegedly hacked into Baker College’s network to modify grades, add courses, and change degree programs. One culprit admitted to the crime, stating his classmates approached him with the idea during his unsuccessful college state. He claimed everything went unnoticed until deciding to switch programs. Then his teacher/chairperson questioned him about a class he never took. Soon after, the police seized his hardware and began tracking down the other culprits. Though it remains unclear if he was kicked out, charges were never brought up on him, and the unnamed assailant stuck to his cowardice ways by blaming the actions on the college: “It wasn’t wrong, but I felt that Baker had done me wrong, so I’m just trying to get myself back on track.”
