With the new titles of Marvel NOW just beginning to trickle out, most fans are probably still waiting for all of the “big changes” that the company promised to actually take place. And though we're not convinced this direction will revolutionize the industry just yet, we’re still looking forward to Avengers when it gets relaunched this December. Written by Jonathan Hickman (Manhattan Projects) and illustrated by Jerome Opena (Uncanny X-Force), this book touts a big roster and even bigger threats.

And to get fans ready for what looks to be the company’s cornerstone book, Marvel has released four pages of unlettered preview art by Opena, which are simply stunning to look at. Sure, we have no idea what’s going on here, but if he can bring this quality of work to each issue, then we’re completely sold on the book. Avengers #1 will hit shelves on December 5. Check out the art and a short synopsis below.

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Avengers #1, kicking off the all-new ongoing series from the blockbuster creative team of writer Jonathan Hickman, artist Jerome Opena and colorist Dean White! Now shipping twice a month, the Avengers “go large,” expanding their roster and their sphere of influence to a global and even interplanetary level.
