Microsoft Surface Pro— the version of the new tablet that can run all versions of Windows software, not just the Windows 8 stuff— will launch in January for $900, Microsoft announced today.
For that entry level price, you'll get 64 GB of on-board storage, but no keyboard cover. As with the previously releasedSurface RT ($500), you'll have to shell out an additional $120 for that crucial accessory.
Microsoft will also sell a 128 GB version of Surface Pro for $1,000.
After the announcement of Surface RT pricing, these price points aren't really a surprise. But they're still higher than ideal, especially considering that for the same amount of money you could get an 11-inch Macbook Air.
The Pro's pricing doesn't change the calculus on Surface. It's still a promising device, but also a tough sell.
