After copping a plea, a retired Huntington Beach couple was sentenced to three years probation for having sex with a 17-year-old male high school student. 63-year-old Daniel Alma Shepard and 60-year-old Gay Davidson-Shepard were also sentenced to 60 days of community service and ordered to seek counseling. Had the case gone to trial, Shepard could've received 5 years in prison, and Davidson-Shepard could've received nearly 10 years behind bars.

They pleaded guilty to having a sexual relationship with the 17-year-old beginning in April 2009. The couple invited him over to play board games, then gave him alcohol and invited him to join them in their hot tub—in the nude. There, Davidson-Shepard performed oral sex on him and her husband. The relationship with the boy continued past his 18th birthday.

Shepard pleaded guilty to  two counts of oral copulation of a minor, one count of sodomy with someone younger than 18 and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Davidson-Shepard pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, sodomy with someone younger than 18, oral copulation of a minor and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and violating a protective order by texting and calling the victim against court orders.

Deputy District Attorney Nicole Varner was not happy with the sentencing, as she wanted the couple behind bars and forced to register as lifetime registered sex offenders.
