Back in April, 25-year-old Jesse Zorski was hit by an NYPD vehicle while crossing the street. The vehicle hit him in the left leg, then he hit the side-view mirror before landing on his wrist. Zorski was taken to the hospital, and his mother sued the city to cover the $1,200 cost of the ambulance ride and subsequent treatment. Soon after they received a bill from the city for  $1,028.08, the cost of the damage to the NYPD cruiser. Zorski says that the city sent the bill once they realized he was going to sue.

NYPD commissioner Paul Browne said that the letter should not have been sent, and is making sure that similar letters are not sent in the future. The city's law department has also asked the outside law firm to drop the case.
