While Israel and Palestinetraded mortars in Gaza today, representatives of both states let barbs of the verbal kind fly on Twitter. In an exchange not entirely dissimilar from the sort had by dueling rappers and aging Disney stars on a routine basis, the official Twitter account of the Israeli Defense Forces posted a threat to members of the militant Palestinian group Hamas, which was promptly responded to by the Twitter arm of a Hamas affiliate called the al-Qassam Brigade.
“We recommend that no Hamas operatives, whether low level or senior leaders, show their faces above ground in the days ahead,” wrote the IDF.
“Our blessed hands will reach your leaders and soldiers wherever they are (You Opened Hell Gates on Yourselves),” shot back al-Qassam.
The IDF tweeted developments in its Operation Pillar of Defense attacks on Palestinian forces in the Gaza Strip throughout the day. The killing of al-Qassam leader and Hamas military general Ahmed Jabari during the operation was promptly boasted of on the social network, with video of the strike that allegedly eliminated him posted to YouTube.
"More than 12,000 rockets hit Israel in the past 12 years. RT if you think #Israel has the right to defend itself," the IDF tweeted shortly after the strike.
