It can take years for a team of hundreds to create a single video game—or it can take two days for a small indie team to do the same. It's all about context, right?

In the 2012 Indie Speed Run, the context is that teams of one to four developers will have two Earth days to develop one indie game. The esteemed panel of judges includes The Escapist's Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson, Ron Gilbert, Trent Oster, Jason Rohrer, Vander Caballero, Kellee Santiago, and Dino Patti.

The Indie Speed Run is an international online game jam, and it begins today. Once you enter you'll be given some specific things you have to include in your game. Entries will be accepted until Jan. 6. After that date the accepted games will become available to play online until the end of January, and the winners will be announced in February. The first place team will receive $2,500 and all the exposure that comes with winning.

Thinking about entering? Got any good ideas?
