Google's troubles with the Chinese government took a turn for the worst today as the company noticed a large drop-off in traffic to its sites in China.

Data from the Google Transparency Report shows that starting around 4 AM, a large number of Google services became inaccessible to users in many parts of China. A Google spokeswoman said there's no issue on the company's side, so any disturbance must be coming from the country's government.

Some believe China's Communist Party may have ordered the block as it begins to pick a new leader. Nothing has been confirmed. But this wouldn't be the first time China has blocked he Mountain View, Calif. company.

Google has been blocked several times in China since 2010 when it decided to stop removing links from search result that the Chinese government found objectionable.
