45-year-old Michael Dunn, the man who shot and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis at a Jacksonville gas station because of the teen's loud music, is claiming that he acted in self defense. Legal experts are confident that Dunn will invoke the state's "Stand Your Ground" law, the same law at the center of the Trayvon Martin case.
Dunn and his girlfriend were in Jacksonville to attend his son's wedding, while Davis and a group of friends. They all ended up at the same gas station. While the friends went inside to purchase things, Dunn and Davis reportedly got into a confrontation over the volume of music coming from the vehicle that Davis and his friends were inside of.
Following a brief confrontation, Dunn fired his weapon eight or nine times, fatally striking Davis. Dunn's attorney is saying that his client retaliated out of fear for his own life. Robin Lemonidis says that his client only pulled out a gun and opened fire because he saw a gun barrel through the window of the other vehicle.
Dunn and his girlfriend fled the scene, afraid that they had encountered gang members. There were no guns found inside of the teen's SUV.
