Numerous Instagram accounts claiming to be affliated with major airline carriers have surfaced recently promising free flights to those who follow and share the account. Unfortunately the accounts are not real so no free flights will be given out.

The handles of the fake accounts are @americanairlines_giveaways, @united_giveaways, @jetbluegiveaways, and @delta_giveaways.

Each account is set up in a similar fashion. They promise either a free flight or a round-trip ticket to the first couple thousand followers. The @delta_giveaways account acquired over 21,000 followers after promising free flights to the first 20,000 followers.

There are no official rules or user agreements associated with the accounts so there was no way to regulate which followers qualify for free flights. Who set up the accounts and why they did is unclear. Presently Instagram has not commented on the fake accounts.

JetBlue however, verified on its Twitter account that the Instagram account is fake and that they are not giving out free flights. Sorry, guys and gals. Hopefully you didn't pack your suitcase if you followed one of these fraudulent accounts.
