Facebook allows its more than one billion users to post all sorts of ridiculous photos. We captured a bunch of the funniest ones here. But one thing the social network doesn't play around with, apparently, is nudity and sexuality—implied or real.
Website Theories of the Deep Understanding of Things decided to test the boundaries of Facebook's censorship by posting the above photo of a woman laying in a bathtub. The woman is assumed to be naked, but we can't be sure—all we see is her head, bubbles, and elbows. Regardless, Facebook took the image down and told the site that it was removed because it violated Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.
After the take down Theories of the Deep Understand of Things took to its Facebook page and said, "'So, here's last night’s FB alertness test results: FB moderators can't tell an elbow from a dangerous, filthy, uncanny and violent female breast."
According to the Daily Mail, Facebook content is moderated by "workers in Morocco and other developing countries paid $1 an hour via an online outsourcing company called oDesk."
One pissed-off worker leaked details about the oDesk's instructions which included deleting "all forms of sexual activity, even simulated activity where there was nothing explicit to show."
Word to the wise: Keep those elbows covered when posting an image to Facebook.
