We’re taking this rumor with a grain of salt the size of a car battery for right now, but according to Express, Darth Vader will make his return in the upcoming Star Wars trilogy. A “film mole” told the site, “He’s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible. The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films.”

Obviously Vader died in 1983’s Return of the Jedi, but with Disney looking to make some serious bank with this new trilogy, having him return would make financial sense for the studio. It would drum up interest and merchandise sales for the film, as people would crave one more glimpse at one of the great cinematic villains of all time. When asked how he would return, the mole told the site, “This is science fiction remember. Darth Vader will rise from the ashes.”

If this does indeed happen, we sure hope James Earl Jones returns to do the voice. We just can’t picture Vader without it.
