Chef Hospitalized After Tasting Fiery Hot Sauce

A decision he instantly regretted.

Chef Arif Ali couldn't take the heat after tasting extremely hot chili sauce at his restaurant. Ali, 26, had to be hospitalized after tasting the sauce, which was prepared for a Man v. Food-style wing eating competition scheduled at Jimmy's Restaurant in London's O2 arena. The sauce was composed of Naga Jolokia chillies, which measures up at 250,000 on the Scoville scale of chili strength. It's so hot, it has to be handled with latex gloves.

Ali first tasted the sauce as customers cheered him on, but they instantly became concerned when he started sweating. After downing a glass of milk, he ate two more wings, and then started sweating profusely and gasping. Soon after, he collapsed on the table. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released, but struggled with stomach cramps and diarrhea for the next week.
