Bad news for fans of Starz's Boss: Looks like the Kelsey Grammer-starring series has will not be returning for a third season, despite the impressive amounts of critical praise it earned during its two years on the air. "After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with (a third season of) Boss,” Starz said in a statement. “We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, [creator] Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV."
Ratings-wise, the series never quite accumulated a massive following, though it did have a rather dedicated core fanbase. Season two premiered to 317,000 viewers, and weekend premiere airings averaged around 937,000 viewers - down from season one's average of 1.1 million.
However, there is a silver lining to this news. According to Deadline, there are some discussions going on between Starz and the show's production company, Lionsgate TV, to produce a two-hour movie that would wrap the storyline up. Nothing has been confirmed yet, though, and for now the show does remain cancelled.
But don't worry, Kelsey Grammer: We're sure it's not because you're a Republican.
