Sorry, Merlin fans: Looks like you're going to have to get your fill of fantasy British television elsewhere. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the co-creators behind the hit BBC series, Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy, have opted to end the show after five seasons, citing that its "bowing out at its natural climax."

"We always felt the story of the legend was best told across five series," Capps and Murphy said of the decision, "leading to a spectacular finale that draws on the best known elements of this much-loved story and brings to a conclusion the battle for Camelot."

Spin-offs of the show, which follows a young wizard named Merlin and is loosely based on Arthurian legends, are reportedly being considered. The finale will air this Christmas on BBC.
