Rev. Mark Derksen was already a pusher of religion, so it wasn't a big leap for him to start pushing dope—for divine purposes, of course. Derksen, 63, has been accused of selling drugs to the community. His justification? Drugs "brings them closer to God." We're not certain if he means that literally or figuratively, but, in the eyes of the law, it's wrong.
Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office say that Derksen was dealing to 30 people from his apartment. After obtaining a warrant, deputies found large quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, and prescription pills. Faith Mountain Christian Church, where Derksen is a pastor, is currently for sale. The infamous Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he isn't sure whether or not Derksen sold drugs out of the church.
A 36-year-old woman was arrested at Derksen's apartment for outstanding warrants for drug charges and suspicion of possession. A shotgun and small caliber pistol were found at the scene as well. Deputies also removed his computer and phone, hoping it would reveal his client list and supplier. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said they had been monitoring Derksen for two years, but didn't have the evidence to make an arrest until now.
Now we're waiting for someone to rap about selling dope from the pulpit.
