19. Krebs, Walk a Crooked Mile (1948)
Played by: Raymond Burr
At the height of the film noir movement, as well as America’s first years in the Cold War, Walk a Crooked Mile hit theaters as an early anti-Communist film about a group of spies trying to steal secrets from a Los Angeles defense plant. Raymond Burr played the head of this group of Reds, and he spent most of his time brutalizing FBI and Scotland Yard agents who were trying to stop him. There were no redeeming qualities for Burr in this movie, and this type of black-and-white perspective on the Cold War would be the blueprint for the decades of propaganda to come.
