So, you dug The Hunger Games but couldn't help wondering how it'd be if there was an R-rating and all of the gory violence was shown? Look no further than the 2000 Japanese cult classic Battle Royale to satiate that bloodlust. The original "kids killing kids for sport" movie, Kinji Fukasaku's notoriously unflinching film finds a bunch of ninth-graders tracked by exploding neck collars and forced to murder one another on a deserted island, and boy does Fukasaku not hold back from showing them doing precisely that.
Suicides, gunfights, near-rape, and other nightmarish imagery involving schoolchildren provide more than enough fire to incinerate multiple taboos. Jennifer Lawrence's movie looks like The Sandlot by comparison.
