"The Witcher" Devs' Next Project Revealed: "Cyberpunk 2077"

The futuristic RPG has a name.

The last we heard about CD Projeckt Red's Cyberpunk-inspired RPG, the Witcher devs were describing their influences for the project: Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Deus Ex, Shellshock, and others. That got us excited, but there's been little word since, and few details since the game's announcement in May.

That changed today when CDPR announced the game's title: the descriptive "Cyberpunk 2077."

The devs said that player freedom and gameplay diversity will be two of the main tenets of their design, and that many of the game's mechanics will be inspired by the original cult pen-and-paper game, Cyberpunk, created by Mike Pondsmith.

Pondsmith had this to say about working with the developers of The Witcher

“The Team has to love the material. The Team has to want to be faithful to the material. The Team has to have the skills to execute the material and see that vision through to the end. They have to be on fire with the desire to make an extraordinary game. And that leads, at last, to why we hooked up with CD Projekt RED.”
