We’re still about a year away from its release, but comic book fans are already looking forward to Thor’s return in Thor: The Dark World. The movie will take place in the events after The Avengers and will reunite the supporting cast from 2011’s Thor for some more godly action. Now, courtesy of Collider, we have a new official synopsis for the movie. Check it out below:

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

This synopsis further suggests that the movie will take place mostly away from Earth in the other nine realms. It also confirms that Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) will again play a role in the film and that a new villain will be introduced. We'll have more news on the film as it becomes available.

Thor: The Dark World is set to be released on November 8, 2013.
