Samsung has confirmed that 1,400 units of its newly released "phablet", the Galaxy Note 2, have been stolen from a Malaysian airport.
Shortly after a launch event on October 20, a massive theft took place at the airport in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. An investigation is underway but recovery of all the devices is highly unexpected.
As a countermeasure, Ideal Mobile has published a list of the stolen IMEI numbers. The list will enable customers to verify if a purchased device is legal. Samsung has verified that warranty claims will not be honored for the stolen devices.
Smartphones and tablets are popular targets for thieves. Back in September, 191 iPhone 5 devices were stolen from Japanese carrier stores. Apple loss about $200,000 from that theft but Samsung is reportedly taking a hit of $1 million from the Malaysian theft.
