Another day, another iPad Mini rumor. This one, however, comes from the well-sourced John Paczkowski of AllThingsD, which correctly predicted the iPhone 5 launch date earlier this summer. According to Paczkowski, Apple is planning to have an invite-only media event on October 23, at which it will announce a so-rumored-it-has-to-be-true smaller version of the iPad.
The date, which Apple has yet to confirm via its usual invites to press, is just three days before Microsoft plans to launch its own widely anticipated Surface tablet. If it holds, Apple would get the added bonus of stealing the spotlight from Microsoft in the days leading up to the event, which had been planned as a response to the larger iPad.
The iPad Mini is expected to be slimmer version of the iPad with a smaller 7.85-inch display.
