While Lena Dunham is landing multi-million dollar book deals for herself, her Girls co-star Jemima Kirke is eight months pregnant, waiting with baited breath on the birth of her second daughter. Which isn't exactly stopping her from anything. She poses pregnant and topless in a new NSFW (but Google is your friend) VICE spread that is sure to raise an eyebrow or twenty.
In the accompanying interview, she's also rather blunt about how she went from being a real life party girl to a party girl on the small screen. Turns out— surprise, surprise!— all you need is friends to make that happen.
"My friend Lena [Dunham] asked me to be in a movie that she was making with her parents’ money called Tiny Furniture," she explains. "She didn’t have enough to pay anyone, and I guess it was slim pickings, so she asked me to be part of it and it was a success. Afterward she was offered the TV show and invited me to work on it. I never thought it’d go as far as it has."
She doesn't think she'll be in it for the long haul, though. Yes, you tireless actors out there can let your blood stop boiling now. You studied Hamlet at Cambridge, but Kirke doesn't have her sights set on stealing your coveted roles.
"Acting is secondary—I don’t feel like it’s going to stick around because it’s not something I want to do forever," she says. "My art has always been my top priority and I have far more experience in that field than I do in film. It’s hard to explain without sounding like a dick. I’m not that person. I’m really grateful for such enjoyable work, I just don’t feel as though I have any clout as an actor. I haven’t earned it, and I don’t intend to."
