New York High School Students in Blackface Reenact Chris Brown's Assault on Rihanna

Three white students in blackface at Waverly High School in Waverly, NY performed a "satirical reenactment" of Chris Brown's February 2009 assault on Rihanna as part of a competition for the title of "Mr. Waverly."

This spectacle took place at a pep rally in front of students, faculty, parents, community leaders, and the media. Ashamed and disgusted, former students are shocked that the administration allowed the racist incident to happen. Not only do you permit your students to make racist jokes, you also let them make light of domestic violence?

Former Waverly High student Vlad Chituc told CNN: "I think it’s unconscionable that such blatant racism has been tacitly approved." Chituc added that school administration should be creating an environment where minorities feel welcome and comfortable, rather than subject to such blatant disrespect.

Waverly School District superintendent Joseph Yelich says that the school district is "committed to creating a positive atmosphere," and says he will work with all his schools to ensure they abide by that. Looks like he has his work cut out for him.
