One of the most woefully underappreciated directors in world cinema is Ang Lee. Despite churning out quality movies for well over a decade in the States, people always want to focus on his disappointments, rather than his accomplishments. But it might be time for Lee to silence the critics once and for all as we get ready for the release of Life of Pi. Based on the novel by Yann Martel, the movie is about a young man named Pi Patel (Suraj Sharma) who ends up stranded in the Pacific Ocean with a tiger after a shipwreck.

Now, courtesy of Movie Fone, we have a brand-new clip from the movie that shows off the film’s serene nature, as well as Lee’s unique visual style. Most striking is the use of reflection on the water, especially in those overhead shots. Not many directors can pull off a story like this, and if the early buzz is any indication, then Lee may have a winner on his hands.

We’ll know for sure when Life of Pi comes out on November 21. Until then, be sure to check out the clip above.
