According to The L.A. Times, Hasbro has signed a deal with independent production and finance company Emmett/Furla Films to produce movies based on its famous board games Monopoly and Hungry Hungry Hippos, as well as Action Man, one of the most popular toys at the company.

Hasbro is hoping to get Monopoly into production by 2013, with Ridley Scott on as a producer. Scott was actually signed on to be the director at one point, which would have just been surreal. The article also states that Hungry Hungry Hippos will be an animated movie aimed at kids.

After the abject failure of Battleship, you would think that Hasbro would be a bit more cautious with its franchises, but the company seems more aggressive than ever. The end result is that we're actually going to get a Monopoly movie eventually. Soak it in, people.
